Tahiti is the largest and most populous island in French Polynesia, located in the society-islands archipelago. As the economic and cultural heart, the island houses the capital city of Papeete as well as the international airport, making it the busiest entry point to the region. While many use it as a brief stopover, Tahiti is well worth dedicating 2 to 3 days to explore. The island itself is shaped like a figure-eight, consisting of two volcanic landmasses which are connected by a narrow isthmus.
