Sukhvinder Singh, affectionately known as 'Pinky', is a highly dynamic and globally recognized percussionist specializing in low-tuned tabla and jori. Hailing from Punjab, his musical journey began at age five with dholak and pakhawaj in the Namdhari Sangeet tradition, quickly becoming a disciple of pakhawaj exponent Nihal Singh. His prodigious talent led him to a public debut at 13, impressing Alla Rakha, and subsequently to Varanasi for intense training under the legendary Benares gharana master Pandit Kishan Maharaj for eighteen years.
Pinky's career boasts extensive collaborations with leading Hindustani instrumentalists such as Pandit Ravi Shankar, Ustad Vilayat Khan, and Ustad Amjad Ali Khan. He gained international acclaim and a Grammy Award for his work with Ry Cooder and Pandit Vishwa Mohan Bhatt on the album "A Meeting by the River." Ustad Zakir Hussain has even proclaimed him the world's foremost jori exponent. Known for his spontaneity, power, and virtuosity, he captivates audiences and is dedicated to sharing the rich repertoire of Punjab and Benares gharana across the globe. He performed at Darbar Festival 2021, showcasing his mastery.
