Here is a fantastic Persian tasnif (song) using a Sufi poem written by Hafez of Shiraz, with the music created by very dear Iranian composer Ali Akbar Shida.
I originally fell in love with the version sang by one of my most favourite artists from Iran, the legendary Mohammad Reza Shajarian. I highly recommend listening to the original recording of the song by Mr. Shajarian.
Although it is an instrumental rendition of the song arranged for guitar. I would like to take advantage to explain a little about the lyrics.
For those who already know sufi people there is probably not much I can say they don’t know. Sufi mystics use metaphors, paradox, as well as other resources to bring such an abstract thing as the divine reality. Many people read sufi stories without getting their deepest meaning, hence missing the important signs needed for the spiritual path.
Now, sufi stories are really beautiful even when we don’t understand them. However, if you have the keys to unlock their wisdom and magic, I can’t even begin to explain the wonderful surprise your are up to.
There are many simple keys that help understanding with some depth sufi stories and their wisdom. For instance, every time we read about a bird, it refers to the human soul and its trials. Wine and becoming drunk symbolizes losing one’s ego. The term “beloved” or “lover” refers to God. And in the case of the song at hand we have the “Taare Zolf” or “Strands fo your hair”.
That would be the perfect translation of the title “THE STRANDS OF YOUR HAIR”.
So in this case these “strands of hair” belong to the “Beloved”, and the message of the song is about the longing for the divine and its mysteries.

English Translation:
So many hearts have taken refuge in the strands of your hair
Where should I seek the heart? One lock of hair and so many hearts!
My beloved, the candle of my gathering, the peace of my heart
Alas, I will not be separated from you
Come, my heart's companion
I will not be displeased with you
Do not leave, candle of my gathering.
