Cascade failures are happening world wide. Companies are failing, things are becoming harder to get and prices are rising. High Technology items will be first to disappear. As things get worse, people will begin to panic. Governments will make laws to abate the crisis but it will just make it worse. As Governments double down to prevent further failures they will "lock" everything down hoping this will stop further degradation; however, this ends up destroying money, ushering in total collapse where violence is the new currency. This is the chain of events described in the book Atlas Shrugged.
