Today, modern tech companies are creating or evolving design systems to help designers create consistently valuable user experiences. Full of principles and patterns, many decisions are already documented before a designer begins their work. It begs the question: what is the role of the designer in a world of design systems? What do designers do when the machine comes for our jobs? If they are not picking new colours and fonts or redesigning a button for the 100th time, how can designers in tech anticipate and arm themselves with new skills and frameworks needed for what’s next?
