We recently hosted a hands-on introduction to Systems Mapping as part of a 10-week guided learning journey into the foundations of systems innovation.
This 90-minute session welcomed participants into the Systems Mapping Module and provided a guided starting point for understanding how systems can be visualised and explored. Together, we explored what systems maps are, why they matter, and how they help make sense of complex challenges.
Purpose of the Event
The session was designed to build a foundational understanding of systems mapping concepts and language. Participants began learning how to move from abstract ideas about systems to visual representations that highlight relationships, patterns, and dynamics.
What Happened During the Event
Participants were introduced to the core elements of systems maps, including system components and the relationships between them. The session then explored causal links and feedback loops that influence how systems behave over time. We also touched on systems archetypes—recurring patterns that appear across many different types of systems.
The event included a short guided reflection, helping participants connect these mapping concepts to real-world situations and challenges they care about.
