So I couldn't help but comment on the big debate in the US at the moment. My personal opinion is that I can fully understand not wanting racism in your state. But it is not the flags fault and there will always be bad people in this world who look for excuses to do bad things. Dylan was one of those people and there will be many more in the future... But we really need to stop blaming the existence of these people on things like symbols which have completely subjective meanings.
So the conclusion - Symbols have subjective and dynamic meanings. Ideas are static and therefore up for debate.
