Patch 1.14 buffed Sword and Board in a few different ways. Small and Medium Shields received significant increases to their guard boost, making them actually viable. Straight Swords, along with a bunch of other weapon classes, got a very nice buff to their uncharged heavy/R2 attacks. This is incredible for different mix ups and retaining attack priority in various situations.
