Travel day from Zermatt to Wengen, our final town and longest stay.
There were no direct rail connections, so we zig-zag on what was supposed to be five short train rides. One of them had an issue going through the town of Interlaken, so we crowded onto a bus.
In Wengen, we head to the Hotel Regina, which is over 100 years old. No air conditioning, typical of older hotels in the region, and usually not needed. But we're in a heat wave. We were booked in a quirky room on the top floor, essentially an attic (how hot is your attic), so Cyndi pressed for a different room.
Even with all that travel, it was fairly early, so we hopped the train back to the previous town, Lauterbrunnen (which Gary struggles to pronounce) to get the lay of the land. Most of our excursions for the week will begin there. The train serves as both cross-country travel and commuter between the nearby villages.
