North Carolina State House Representative Tricia Cotham, formerly a staunch Democrat, switched political parties because she is upset at some of her colleagues. Of all the reasons to switch parties...
Her party switch, which she said has everything to do with Democrats bullying her, has given Republicans a veto-proof majority in the NC House and Senate. This means abortion, LGBTQ+ rights, climate change initiatives, public education, healthcare, voting, redistricting, really anything are all on the table and, after all Republicans, which now includes Rep Cotham, vote to destroy rights, the governor cannot do anything because Republicans will override his veto.
This will likely lead to a changing of districts which will ensure Rep Cotham moves into a more "conservative" district for the 2024 general election.
