Neil Archer | Swing Medley performed by Neil Archer on the Yamaha HS8 Electone | Filmed in the 1990โs @NeilArcher | Uploaded 3 months ago | Updated 1 hour ago
This is something completely different. I recently found a DVD of a concert I did back in the 1990's on the amazing Yamaha HS8 Electone organ. This organ came out in 1987 as Yamahaโs flagship. It sold for ยฃ5,499! Interstingly, I had two of these and performed on this on the first several cruise contracts including a full world cruise in 1999 on the Saga Rose.
The video isn't HD but the audio is pretty good. As most of you know, I started my musical life playing organ and didn't move to piano until a later time. Back in the 90's I was very proficient at playing the organ, and getting the most out of the machines - I sold them at a music store (Fox's Music) back in my home town of Doncaster UK. As this is footage from a concert, I have more songs! I'll be introducing more over the coming days / weeks.
I'm playing this in the style of a Big Band! Amazing songs, and a bit of improvisation here on piano and trombone - and also sax section and screaming horns. The keys on this instrument are all touch sensitive so the harder you hit the keys, the brighter the tone. The trombone sound has some effects allowing me to glide it as a trombone player would glide on the instrument itself. The bass notes are being played by my left foot on pedalboard which is essentially another keyboard, just played with the feet. Stay to the end of the video where you'll hear the audience applause and see me as a 20-something year old.
Anyway, I hope you enjoy this. Here's a list of songs - and improvisation parts too.
0:00 Stompin At The Savoy
1:04 Fascinating Rhythm
1:51 Crazy Rhythm
2:11 Piano Improvisation
2:28 Trombone Improvisation
3:09 Opus One
3:51 Take The A Train
Again, no sheet music used for this - just my interpretation of listening to the songs. I hope you enjoy it. If youโre here for the first time and you like what you see and hear, please subscribe so you can catch my future uploads. Click on the bell ๐ so you get notifications of my new uploads.
