The Johnson Family were a 1970's Canadian soul/funk/R&B family band who called Toronto home. The patriarch and matriarch Ed & Angela Johnson got their start singing in Trinidad, before moving to Canada. After a series of singles for Atlantic Records (produced by the legendary Bob Ezrin), multiple national and international tours, and a CHTV special in Canada, the children in the group, who were now young adults, formed a new band with friends called Sweet Ecstasy (c. 1982).

Sweet Ecstasy's first single "Pull Our Love Together," was released and distributed by Summersault Records in 1983. The song was well-received throughout North America, yet record sales peaked in Germany. In 1983, the single won the group several Canadian Black Music Awards. Highlights of the band’s career included opening for Kool & The Gang at Toronto’s Kingswood Theatre as well as The Forum in Montreal. This was quickly followed by opening for Grandmaster Flash & The Furious Five at The Concert Hall in Toronto. Debbie Johnson had a fruitful solo career a few years later.
