This is a fan-made title theme I did of an upcoming game by Die Soft called "Little Nemo and Guardians of Slumberland." I offer video game music tips for indie developers on my twitter and I wanted to try creating a song for a game that hasn't showcased any music yet. A mockup, with a purpose of exploring possibilities of the game's sound. Below is my original tweet.

I'm experimenting with a new content idea and "Little Nemo" from @diesoftgames is my guinea pig. This is a fan-made title/main theme for the game. I'm not associated OR working with this title. I want to talk about possible OST Design methods this game could take.

"Little Nemo and the Guardians of Slumberland" is marked as a Platforming Metroidvania. Its premise is a boy named Nemo that enters Slumberland by falling asleep. Slumberland is the dream world that the player explores.

As such, I immediately went with a sense of adventure as a title/main theme. With the aesthetic of "childlike dreams", I took inspiration from Kirby. Unlike Kirby, I'm using particular instrumentation. This brings me to my first idea.

The game's music could feature a combination of childlike and sleep-like instruments such as, Celesta, Recorder, Marimba, Piano, and Chimes. Soothing synths pads can complimented these as well.

The main instrument in the theme follows this as its a custom instrument made out of:
Toy Piano
Toy Glock
Music Box
Toy Xylophone
2 Synths that trys to emulate a musical Speak n' Spell.

In game however, each new environment would spotlight an instrument from this "childlike" or "sleep-like" category. I spoke on this as "Selective Instrumentation" on my blog. The Lead in the theme could be considered "Specialized Instrumentation."

Additionally, each environment could have its own melody based off popular bedtime songs. Genshin Impact's Inazuma did this as most of its songs are derived from traditional Japanese folk music. The beginning of this theme softly references "Go to Sleep" Baby's lullaby.

As a personal touch, I added a little Horns to represent the "Guardians" while giving that same sense of adventure. I originally wanted something of a "Toy Horn" or solo horn but the song lost a lot of that adventurous momentum or made it sound too wacky and nasal.
