The refugee crisis in Europe is usually discussed in numbers – five million Syrians fleeing their country, 162,000 asylum applications to Sweden in 2015, an 82% drop one year later when Swedish parliament voted to toughen immigration laws. The human stories are often lost. In REFUGE, we see how the European nation has welcomed refugees in the past and is grappling with how to welcome them in the future through the eyes of Suldan Hassan, a prodigious running talent from Somalia, and Hamza and Shaker, two teenage boys who've recently fled Syria and are using a local running club as a way into Swedish society.
