After many failed attempts, my run for the S+ achievement. Survived for 162.85 seconds.

There are no real tricks to this. Just keep trying your best and you will earn it soon. I feel the strategies to this are most similar to Geometry Wars.
Stay in the right third of the screen near the center, and keep moving up and down slightly. Be aware of enemies coming in from the top and bottom. These guys will be the ones to hit you most.
I find it helps to aim at the enemies as if you were playing CS, rather simply spraying in their direction. Focus your eyes on the enemy ships rather than your own. This is the best tip I can give you.
If you cannot take out the flankers immediately, then focus the horde and do your best to dodge flankers and buy some time. If you spend too much time aiming at flankers you will be over run by the frontal horde. If ships are behind you and you're getting overwhelmed, it is possible to aim at the horde in front of you and cut a path through them, then take out the ships behind you afterwards.
It takes a lot of attempts and a little luck. Keep at it and good luck.
