Ending with the beginning today!!! Island was the real trampoline of inspiration in which this LP was shaped. What started off as wanting to do a mini ‘ambient series’ turned into quite the journey of experimentation with writing concepts, vocal ideas, and production, which is still well underway! After writing ‘Island' in my living room in 2014 w/ dear songwriting mentor and collaborator, Mark Carson, I began to really explore melodic ideas, and just sing them into my computer, crank up the reverb for inspo., … and yes, I cannot tell a lie .. I used garageband lol … some songs take simmering, and this one took me nearly two years to approach Tony Esterly about it and share concept ideas. In addition to stretching my capacity creatively and vocally, Tony also gave me confidence, that not all my garageband efforts were rotten to the core, but were actually usable. - this final bts sample is a clip of the original vocal map I made for Island before meeting w/ Tony, and some of these raw bgvs are sampled/pitched in the final recording.
