Recently, I embarked on an adventure to design and laser cut a card for my wallet.
Little did I know that I'd face a Hydra called Reality. For every challenge that I solved, two new ones emerged...
In the software world, we often have the privilege of quick feedback loops, be it running code or tests.
But as we slowly broaden our scope and venture into the real world, navigating unpredictable variables from complex software, proprietary hardware, and a little thing called "physics", we quickly lose this privilege.
How can we use Python and SVGs to speed up and fortify this process, and what can the real world of fabrication with laser cutting teach us regarding software design?
By the end of the talk, you'll have a basic understanding of how to cleanly design SVGs and SVG paths with the assistance of Python. You'll also understand (more than want to know about) laser cutting, and some suggested learnings regarding software design.

North Bay Python is a boutique one-track conference, held in Petaluma, California. Our first events were held in 2017-2019 in a 100 year-old theater in the city's downtown. After a planned one-year break that's turned into almost four years, we're excited to return!
This year, we're holding our conference in July, in a barn, on a ranch overlooking the Petaluma River.

 (pronounced magical), a framework for defining GraphQL APIs, including [generating from SQLAlchemy](https://magql-sqlalchemy.autoinvent.dev) models and [integrating with Flask](https://flask-magql.autoinvent.dev). Magql is extensible, looks familiar to developers who are used to Flask, and provides convenience on top of the official Python GraphQL library. Ill discuss why I decided to write this library, and how I went about it, including some of the technical challenges presented by GraphQLs complexity. GraphQLs nested schema and query language allows for some unique and weird possiblities compared to traiditional HTTP/REST APIs, and Ill show off some clever examples that demonstrate its potential. But that complexity can also lead to difficulties. Ultimately, the decision between GraphQL and REST is not clear cut, and this talk will also discuss some of our findings after using Magql and GraphQL in production, and where we want to go next.

 adds a range of auditing hooks to the Python runtime, enabling system administrators to see into how it is being used. You can inspect every piece of code that is compiled and executed, intercept calls that modify trace functions, and collect information on code that uses native functions through `ctypes`.
This session will look at why we need security transparency in Python. We will look at actual examples of malware written in Python, and see how the hooks provided by PEP 551 enable administrators to detect and prevent attacks on their systems.
