Hey everyone, guess what happens, when two anime pianist meet up again in one location?
A christmas special piano duet of course, featuring Ishter himself!
Basically, Ishter was visiting his relatives in London during christmas and so he decided to pay a short visit at my place in germany for one day.
Albeit his stay was very short, we still talked a lot and had a great time together, especially when we went to my conservatory and randomly played anime songs on the steinway - just for fun.
After playing around a little bit, we still had a few hours left before he had to go back to London again, so we decided to record an improvised piano duet.
Since we are both big fans of the Suzumiya Haruhi franchise, we decided to make a Haruhi medley, featuring the most memorable songs from the first season of haruhi like Hare Hare Yukai and God Knows.
The entire video is improvised and done on the spot btw.
There might be some minor mistakes in the video, which could be avoided, but in the end, what really counts is the fun we had together when we were playing the piano duet!
(and switching the places was also a really cool move, lolol)
Well then, Ishter: if you ever find some time again, please visit me in Germany again so we can improvise more goofy piano duets again! I hope you enjoyed your (very short) stay in germany and don't be too upset about the german train fares: I know that they are extraordinary high, lol.

My piano arrangement for the ED song of AKB0048. This series has everything it needs to be an awesome Anime series, but only a handful of people have ever watched it yet. I think I also never skipped the ED song in this Anime because the chorus melody is just too catchy.
Also, you know that things are going to be awesome if the Anime is playing the FULL ending song as an insert song in the climax scene. Which has exactly happened in the final episode of AKB0048. I am definitely looking forward to the second season, which will be airing soon.

Violet Evergarden was definitely one of my favorite Anime Series from 2018 and while the opening song Sincerely have been requested many times, I decided to arrange the ED song Michishirube first. The reason was the legendary 10th episode of Violet Evergarden. (spoiler alert)
That one episode with the letters of the mother, passed down to her daughter in the future. For me, this episode was a pure masterpiece of storytelling and emotional roller coaster. I still remember when I was watching episode 10 for the first time. I was already having massive feels when the daughter started to cry after reading her late mothers letter. And then Michishirube started to play - the full version for the first time - and we see in a time lapse how the daughter still managed to pursuit her happiness, even when both of her parents are gone.
I will never forget that heartwarming moment again. And thats the reason why I took extra effort to make this arrangement of the ED as special as possible.
The piano arrangement follows closely the original song pattern, with an epilogue that tells a happily ever after story with the music alone.
I also used a new jumping technique at 3:55 because I wanted to reflect the sparkling sound for the final chorus. If you have difficulties playing this, just omit the lower e notes in the right hand.
Alright then.
As of now, I have fulfilled my yearly quota already aka 2 videos per year. Yes, Im looking at you, year 2018 (；￣Д￣)

Today I am proud to present you the first piano duet I have ever done on my Youtube Channel and the guest pianist is none other than TheIshter! We both decided to make a piano cover for the ending song of AKB0048 Next Stage because we both really like this Anime.
The collaboration was hard work for both of us and we have to face against many unknown challenges: doing a piano sheet for two pianos, perfectly synchronizing the two piano voices and editing the video until it looks perfect. It took us a long time to figure out everything but the final result was worth it.
With that said, enjoy the first piano duet with TheIshter! I have a feeling, this wont be the last time we will collaborate on Youtube...

Starting today I will upload weekly videos again! Since the arrival of my grand piano has been delayed indefinitely, I will record new arrangements on my Stage Piano instead for the meanwhile. It also features a lightning system, which will change colors and intensity, depending on the mood of the song. I hope you like this current setup!
With that said, let’s move on to Homura「炎」, the Theme Song of the Demon Slayer Movie Mugen Train!『無限列車』. At first I couldn’t believe that Yuki Kajiura was actually the composer of this song, because it sounds very different compared to her usual musical style (lol). But the chorus of Homura is - in my opinion - the single most catchy melody I have heard for a long time. Once you hear it, you can never stop humming this melody.
Arranging a slow-paced song on the piano is always a big challenge for me because there is always a thin line between “boring sound” and excessive arranging”. I usually try out multiple arrangement versions on the piano until I find the “perfect version” and the more I practice, the more techniques are being added to the arrangement.
However, at one point I realized that I included too many ornaments and they are “distracting” Homura from its main melody. I cut out many unnecessary notes and tried to focus more on dynamic difference between each part. (Still, I wish I could use some kind of vibrato on piano keys to imitate LiSA’s fantastic vocal performance but unfortunately, the piano is not made for that.)
I have also watched the Demon Slayer movie while it was airing in Japan and the animation studio Ufotable has outdone themselves again with the fantastic animation. No words about the story though, because the movie hasn’t aired in many countries yet and I dont want to spoil it. I am pretty sure the reason why this movie broke all movie records in Japan is because many people are watching it several times over and over again– because the animation is just so damn satisfying to watch (lol)

It has finally happened. The Manga of Attack on Titan has ended with its last chapter today.
After 11 years, it has finally come to an end. (This description is spoiler-free, dont worry)
Thank you, Isayama-Sensei, for creating this masterpiece. For giving us epic moments of story development. For breaking our hearts every months. For the all good times.
Now, all we can do is waiting for the Anime continuation of Attack on Titan Final Season.
A few words about this piano arrangement:
Similar to my 「Guren no Yumiya」 (full ver.) piano cover, this arrangement is basically non-stop piano action and the sound can be absolutely massive sometimes, especially during the chorus. Its also one of my top 20 most difficult arrangements, mostly because of the fast speed and the octave spamming everywhere.
The thing I like the most about Sound Horizon is their creativity concerning the song structure. They always love to quote melodies from another song like a mini-medley type of Music. 「Shinzou wo Sasageyo」 for example has a short section of 「Jiyuu no Tsubasa」 in 3:02 and a longer 「Guren no Yumiya」 section in 4:24. It is brilliantly included in the song structure and it serves as a wonderful musical callback at the same time.
The original song has also 4 (!) Instrumental solos during the bridge part and each of them is rising the excitement further and further until the epic climax in 4:24.
First there is the drum in 3:09, then the E-Guitar in 3:33, afterwards a piano solo in 3:57 and finally, a violin solo in 4:09. I tried to imitate each instrument on the piano as good as possible and I ended up arranging at least 20 different versions for each part. I just picked out my best ideas and combined it for the instrumental solo part.
Last but not least, the clear file on the top of the piano was a bonus item included in the Manga Magazine of the last chapter of Attack on Titan. Its an original illustration by Isayama Sensei, showing Eren and his friends as kids! Definitely the most wholesome things I have seen for a long time.

EONIAN is the theme song of the movie Expelled from paradise (Japanese name: Rakuen Tsuihou) , a sci-fi anime movie with screenplay by Gen Urobochi.
It has been in the production for almost 5 years, until it finally got released in December 2014.
When I finished watching the movie, the ending song EONIAN was stuck in my head for days. And before I noticed it, I got obsessed with the song EONIAN and I kept listening to this piece over and over again.
Especially the sudden key change from Eb-major to Bb-minor in the chorus gives me goosebumps me every time. I cant simply get enough of ELISAs powerful voice.
This arrangement is definitely one of my more difficult pieces, since I utilized many left hand arpeggios including a Beethoven - inspired arpeggio in the left hand in 2:47. There is also a super difficult hand crossing three-hand-technique as well in 3:00.
But it was worth practicing the entire arrangement for the last week, because the song is just too good. Its so FAAAAAAAAAR AWAAAAAAAAAY~
Well then. *cough*
Give this movie a try if you are looking for a great sci-fi story with an interesting world building concept! You will get used to the CGI animation very soon and the end result is definitely worth watching it. Also, Angela Balzac is a goddess.

Ah, God knows... I am pretty sure, there are many people out there, who havent watched Suzumiya Haruhi yet, but still recognize this song. Even being more than a decade old, God Knows... is still one of the most famous songs among Anime fans, because the melody is just so unforgettable and catchy. Some may have been waiting for me to do a piano arrangement of this song for years and I couldnt agree more: This song is simply a must-play for any anime pianists - and today is finally the day, where I am uploading it on my Youtube channel!
I still remember as it was yesterday when I was watching the 12th episode of Suzumiya Haruhi for the very first time in 2007. When that concert scene came, I have felt an excitement Ive never experienced before. The detailed animation of the guitar playing, Haruhis passion while singing, the dazzling stage lightning, the excited concert crowd, Kyons reaction, everything. The entire scene was so perfectly pieced together and I think I have rewatched the concert scene more than a hundred times already. It was simply one of the most brilliant moments in the history of Anime.
Actually, Suzumiya Haruhi might be the Anime which has kickstarted my interest in Anime in the first place. Back then in 2007, my understanding of Anime was limited to One piece, Dragon ball Z, Digimon etc. But upon discovering Suzumiya Haruhi, my worldview has completely changed. It was so different, so mind-blowingly genius and so much more intriguing, than anything Ive ever seen before. Suzumiya Haruhi has made a huge impact on me as a life of an Anime fan and until today, it is still one of my top 5 anime series of all time.
Well, before this text is getting too long, I want to say a few words about the piano arrangement itself. It is basically a summary of all the improvised (concert-)live versions I have played in the past, and I tried to make the finalized version as exciting as possible by utilizing different voicings, rhythmical variations and sneaking in some secondary melodies. Basically I wanted to recreate the excitement Ive felt when I was watching the 12th episode back then. Every here and there, I also put some surprise moments in the arrangements, lets see if you can spot them all! (*•̀ᴗ•́*)و ̑̑
Alright, after this video I think I will take a pause from YouTube to discover more interesting anime songs for my future uploads.

Ousama Ranking was one of my favorite anime series in 2021 and the Opening Song BOY from King Gnu was simply a perfect song to capture the cheery mood from our favorite Prince Bojji. I was really inspired by Bojji’s never-ending optimism and his courage could literally move mountains. I really hope we will see a second season very soon because I already miss Bojji and his trusted friend Kage already.
To be honest, arranging this song was outside of my comfort zone again, because I couldn’t make full use of my usual orchestral arrangement style with its many layers of sound. Instead, I thought a more minimalistic approach is more suitable for an upbeat song like BOY and this arrangement should be played as light-hearted as possible with only minimum pedal use.
Having said that, I still sneaked in some secondary melodies into the arrangement. Just imagine Kage is secretly following Bojji who is playing the main melody (笑). A good example would be the upper voice in the right hand in 0:39 or the fast middle voice in 1:12 and 1:22. Aside from that, I also included a few techniques I rarely use nowadays, for example the “octave sniping” in 3:29 or the chromatic octave run in 4:06.
But my favorite part was actually playing the key change in 3:32 because this is the moment where I was finally “released” from the C-major key. I don’t know whether other pianists would agree with me but playing only white keys (aka C-major) feels really “unnatural” to me. I literally couldn’t wait to play all the black keys again and the key change to Db-major felt like heaven to me. Maybe it’s just me, who loves playing on black keys, haha.

Hey everyone! I am back again and once more, I shall provide you with the most exciting piano covers of the ongoing fall anime season 2013!
Wow, it has been a while since my last upload, isnt it?
Well, I spent my summer vacation in Singapore and Shanghai, and I met many awesome people, and I finally met Tehishter in person. The week I spent in Singapore was certainly the most exciting time period of my life.
Anyway, Gatchaman Crowds was my favorite anime of the summer season, and its soundtrack was just mind-blowingly amazing.
The unique blend of dubstep and classical strings (and opera singer) was a fantastic treat for the ears, but one track especially stood out:
Unbeatable Network.
It sent shivers down my spine upon hearing it for the first time, and I remained silent for almost a minute, because the piece has moved me in the deepest part my heart.
The piano cover of Unbeatable Network was much more difficult to record than I thought, because of the high technical demand of this piece. I think this sheet is easily ranked among my 10 most difficult transcriptions Ive ever written. The whole transcription is basically an Arpeggio Orgy, some nice jazz chords in the middle part, combined with an excessive usage of the right pedal. (oh, and a very small chopin reference, lets see if you get that part)
This piece is dedicated to Tehishter and all the fans (and the staff) I met Singapore.
I may have lost all the photos and videos, but the good memories will last forever.

In order to celebrate that, I decided to make another Transcription special series.
This time, its Anime Piano Nostalgia
And the third entry here is Brave Heart from Digimon Adventure, the very first (and in my opinion best) Digimon Series. Everyone surely remembers this song. Its always played when a digimon is digitaging, a really unforgettable hautingly beautiful piece. (I still can sing the lyrics on german, lol)
This piece is probably the most difficult piece to play from the Anime PIano Nostalgia videos, mainly because of the Arpeggios in both hands.
Still, this piece is just too epic, I still have this song on my ipod until today.
