As police investigate criminal allegations against some of the Sydney Swans' best-known players, a sporting code is once again having to apologise for its behaviour.

This is despite years of effort and millions of dollars spent trying to fix a cultural problem within the sport - the lack of respect shown towards women by supposed role models.

It is not suggested that any of the players are being accused of sexual assault, and none of the banned players, has been formally interviewed by police.
