On July 1st, just before 8:00 am, multiple calls came in regarding a male who was going around grabbing women and sexually assaulting them at a Safeway in the Frederickson area of 176th St. E and Canyon Rd E.
Surveillance captures the suspect entering the store, and 5 minutes later, he is seen running out of the store into some nearby woods. A total of three women had been sexually assaulted.
When deputies arrive, one of the deputies spots the male in the far distance, and a foot pursuit begins. The suspect dips out of sight, but the deputies knew he was hiding somewhere in the woods. It was crucial to locate the male and take him into custody before someone else was assaulted. A few minutes later, the suspect was found hiding in some tall grass. The 24-year-old male was taken into custody and was later booked into the Pierce County Jail for three counts of felony indecent liberties and resisting arrest.
We encourage everyone to have good situational awareness when in public places. Great work by these quick deputies who prevented others from getting assaulted.
