The morning I woke up to head to the airport, Sushi sat in front of me unexpectedly. She had her paw on my hand while I was sleeping, something I’ve never seen her do. It was certainly a surprise to see her hold my hand, it was even more surprising she didn’t react differently when I took a picture; she simply kept her paw on my hand.

This was before I knew Sushi had a critical health issue, followed by her passing the week after I returned home. She held my hand for the first time, she held my hand one last time before I left for the airport. It was a hand hold I never forgot, Sushi was a very weird creature but deep down she always cared about me. It’s the kind of thing that makes me sad that I’ll never feel her heartwarming touch or hear her sassy meows, but I cherish all the great memories and hilarious moments I had intentionally annoying her; Sushi returned the favor by surprising me one last time.

Miso was there behind her, father and daughter who were very close.
