This is an updated version of Susan Haack's talk, "Six Signs of Scientism". In it, she discusses the social phenomenon known as scientism, the view that natural science is the most authoritative way of looking at the world, and is superior to other interpretations of life.
This lecture took place at The University of Western Ontario on Jan. 7, 2011, and was part of the 2010/2011 Rotman Institute of Philosophy Speaker Series. Sound and video quality of the original file were not optimal, but have been improved as much as possible.
