Two bodies have been recovered following a powerful flash flood that tore through the Grand Canyon on Saturday afternoon, according to the National Park Service.
The first body recovered was identified as a 46-year-old man who was found near Crystal Rapids. Officials have not released details about the second body.
More than 60 people were airlifted out of the Grand Canyon following the flash flood, including a couple from California who were rescued from Phantom Ranch. They described running through knee-deep water as a wall of floodwater rushed toward them.
The couple said they lost some belongings in the canyon but are thankful to be alive. They credited the quick thinking of Phantom Ranch park rangers with helping keep them safe. No injuries were reported among the group of 60 people rescued.
