In this video, I set out with a simple goal: to make my mom a beautiful birthday dress. Of course, I said it was all part of a master plan to get rich sewing women’s clothes, but between us… it was really just about giving her something special.
Armed with my trusty Lutterloh pattern drafting System, I take you through the full process—from choosing the pattern and measuring up, to drafting, fitting, re-fitting, and yes… a few moments of humble pie. Spoiler: sewing in front of your mom is a lot of pressure. Especially when she’s watching you pleat a skirt that doesn’t quite line up.
But we got there in the end! There’s lots of laughter, a little bit of drama (pleats, again), and some good old-fashioned family bonding. You’ll also get a peek into how the Lutterloh System works, how I draft patterns using just a couple of measurements, and how I tackle real-life fitting issues.
