A greatsword asks one question of the human body: what happens to the person swinging it? I'm an orthopedic surgeon — this is the surgical reality behind the blade.
Out of every weapon in the Lands Between, the greatsword is the one that demands the most from a real frame. Two hands, a full-body arc, and a load path running from your fingers to your lumbar spine.
From where I sit, a greatsword swing is a chain. Grip strength loads the flexor tendons. Wrists and elbows absorb the eccentric torque. Shoulders drive the arc. Hips and spine translate all of it into the ground. Break one link — TFCC tear, medial epicondylitis, rotator cuff strain — and you find out how long that chain takes to heal.
Same format as my Warhammer breakdowns, with one difference: The Guts Greatsword is plausible. You could have one made. That's what makes it dangerous.
The swing is also where The Guts Greatsword earns its reputation — and where the Tarnished's one-handed grip stops being a flex and starts being a diagnosis.
The verdict comes at the end, where I say which version of a greatsword I'd actually trust a human being to swing.
