Once again I'm returning to Kanto for my next music arrangement - the Surf theme, one of my favourite pieces in the series.
The idea of this remix is simple: to really make you feel as if you're sailing the oceans on the back of Lapras. I want the listener to feel the energy of the waves dancing underneath them, feel the sea breeze lashing against their face, feel the warmth of the sun that's shining down from the brilliantly blue sky; pure joy and excitement, and a sense of endless freedom.
I decided to arrange Red and Blue's surfing theme as in my eyes it's practically the theme of Lapras herself. I wanted to create a real bond between trainer and pokémon here, and I just thought that this theme would be perfect to explore that.
As a kid playing Pokémon Blue, Lapras was one of my favourite creatures. There was something so special about it; the fact that you were unable to catch it and is only giving to you as a reward in the game gave the Pokemon such a mystique that really allured me. She was also something special because she could carry you across the ocean, and this was depicted in a ton of official Pokémon media/merchandise - Lapras really was *the* queen of the waves! I even remember placing a small Lapras sticker on my blue cartridge to make her the official mascot of my game!
I'm very grateful to ieafy who has let me use this fantastic piece of artwork called "Sea Breeze" to accompany my music. For me this was the absolute perfect image, and was exactly the kind of scene I envisioned when creating this remix. Just look at the joy on the trainer and her Lapras' face!
