Microsoft have launched their first-ever laptop with 5G. While Surface Pro models have had 4G and 5G since the Surface Pro 5, this is the first time they've done a laptop with 5G.
In the true Microsoft Surface spirit, they have thrown the engineers at it and made a clever setup that involves 6 strategically positioned auto switching antennas coupled with a Qualcomm 5G radio. It takes a physical Nano SIM or an eSIM (or both). The top Surface of the base is composite - not metal to make sure that those millimetre 5G waves get through.
But this Surface Laptop has an Intel Core processor under the hood with a 48 TOPS NPU (Neural Processing Unit), also making it a very decent Copilot + PC.
I will continue to use a Surface Pro 13 with 5G because it is a multi-modal powerhouse. But if you haven't made that leap yet (or you feel the social pressure of looking 'weird' for using something different than everyone else) then it is super cool to have an always connected Laptop!
