Instructions: (This applies to where I am but in another area e.g. one with other tiles representing control characters, results may vary). You may have earlier seen a short video of this on my Twitter, if you visit Twitter.

Put glitch item 0x83 at the top of the inventory. Use the expanded inventory to write 85 5E 5E 5E 5E 5E 5E 5E 5E 14 50 at D349-D353. This is item 22 quantity through to item 27 quantity. It also represents your lower money byte and 9 characters of the rival name.

For technical details on item 0x83, see luckytyphlosion's glitch item text characters list ^^ pastebin.com/eUnaRARz

5E is the "ROCKET" control character however, so visually the rival name is a lot longer. This will overflow the name, and glitch the menu (probably it copies over the screen itself).

Use 9F until you can see the water-tile, which should align just above Red. Use it again (if in doubt try a few times). 9F jumps to the overworld loop and doesn't return (with damage done to the stack; noticeable if you keep using it a little too much but just a few times is safe; if in doubt save and reset before using it a lot) , so if you open the menu again, you can avert it but what you did has fooled the game into thinking the menu tiles are part of the overworld. Then, Surf with ????? or with the menu ^^. Any will work, but if you do it from the menu make sure not to close the entire menu, just the inventory page.

9F's practical use is quite established now though unfortunately not that popular (relatively) for general use, and was documented by luckytyphlosion (and probably his friends) archives.glitchcity.info/forums/board-107/thread-7169/page-0.html .

Additionally, CFC6 wTileInFrontOfPlayer is corrupted to match the water-tile (which can be changed by replacing 14). You can use this to Surf on land, and is another limited walk through walls method for at least one obstacle. If a map's tileset naturally has no water tiles, this might fail. Perhaps with additional measures it could be added, in which case this glitch could be adapted to Surf anywhere; for now though that's it.

Is this really useful? Well maybe not; as by this point you should have access to Rival's effect/Jack effect/through walls items, but then again it's nice to document things for the sake of it.

Enjoy ^-^ 🌸✨
