In this video, the National Eating Disorders Association and the Anxiety and Depression Association of America (ADAA) explore the connection between eating disorders, anxiety, and teen mental health and how individuals can find help and support.
This collaborative webinar between NEDA and ADAA brings together Jenna DiLossi, PsyD, ABPP, and Rachel Curran, MA, LPC, NCC, to provide school staff, educators, and counselors with practical strategies to better support students and families.
Eating disorders are serious mental and physical health conditions that often begin during adolescence and can significantly impact students’ emotional well-being, learning, relationships, and daily functioning. Anxiety disorders commonly co-occur with eating disorders, making early recognition and compassionate support especially important in school settings.
This discussion explores:
• Warning signs and symptoms of eating disorders
• How to have compassionate conversations with students and caregivers
• Ways to support students and families throughout treatment and recovery
In recognition of Mental Health Awareness Month, the webinar also highlights how seasonal transitions, body image pressures, and changing routines can heighten anxiety and contribute to disordered eating behaviors as summer approaches.
