Supernova in NGC 5907 @ChucksAstrophotography

A star explosion called a supernova was recently discovered 50 million light-years away. It's in the galaxy NGC 5907. It's not easy to see, but if we zoom in we can spot it by comparing the data from 2026 to data I captured in 2025. Supernova (AT2026kid) was discovered on April 22, 2026.

The comet follows an unbound, hyperbolic trajectory past the Sun. It will not come closer than 1.8 AU from Earth, so there is no threat to planet Earth.
