A brand new trick! Home Buffer Bounces!

Since then, I discovered a new trick called "home buffer bounces". Normally, Mario cannot bounce off of enemies after taking damage to enemies. However, if Mario takes damage from the 3D meter, Mario is then allowed to bounce off of enemies again. The difficult part is that the 3D meter resets when taking damage, so normally this can never happen. However, if the home menu is pressed, the timer that ticks down the 3D meter continues while in the pause menu. We can abuse this to rapidly tick the 3D meter down in game-time. This allows us to take 3D meter damage very shortly after getting knocked back, allowing us to bounce off of an enemy. I did this in both the second room and the O'Chunks boss fight room to save 2x "2 presses" over the old route.
In addition, I also do "Blue Pedestal Skip" in the final room. This is done by landing on a thin ledge by the structure that only exists in 3D. By running on this ledge after landing on it, we can then position Mario under the Star Block in 2D and then jump into it while the structure is still down. This does not save any "2 presses" but it does save a few seconds so I thought I would showcase it.
This video features two modified views (at 6:35 and 6:44) to help better visualize the home buffer bounces. This modified view edits out the home menus for a more fluid viewing experience.

1 - To jump up the steps
2 - To jump onto the structure
3 - To jump into the star block
4 - To save the game

However, the "2 press" count showcased in the video is the lowest "2 press" count with the full game in mind. The Super Mario Odyssey A/B Button Challenge (Low-Cappy) is where we go through the game while pressing A or B as few times as possible. The Low-Cappy addition also limits the number of times we can throw Cappy. Note that A/B Presses are prioritized, meaning we will throw Cappy 100 times to save 1 A/B Presses, but not press A/B 100 times to save one Cappy Throw.
Other Rules:
You must play single player only, with no assist mode.
Q: What is a C Throw
A: A C Throw is short for Cappy Throw. We count a Cappy Throw every time we throw Cappy at something or have to stay in the air for a Cap Jump.
Q: Why A/B Presses?
A: In Mario Odyssey, the jump button is assigned to both A and B, so we use the notation, A/B Presses to account for both buttons at once.
Q: Are there half a presses in this game xdxd
A: Yeah, like Mario 64, a half a press is when you hold A from a previous a press that has not been shown in the video. There are various uses for a half a press that will be demonstrated later.
Q: What does From: mean?
A: Because in Odyssey you dont leave the level when you collect a Power Moon, each video will start where the previous video ended (or the previous video in the route). To avoid confusion, I always put the starting location or moon in the description.")

Really bad example of the 2 Button Challenge, but now that we got Thoreau, the possibilities start to open up...

Chapter 1-2 doesnt feature many optimizations as Mario doesnt have any pixls at this point and the level is mostly a vertical climb. However, a shortcut found by flipping into 3D at the starting area allows skipping most of this climbing. The current method of Green Bridge Skip is inaccessible for the 2 Button Challenge (2BC) because it requires getting a Life Shroom which could only be obtained by the shop at this point in the game. Buying an item from the shop takes at least 5x 2 presses, which on top of the 2x 2 presses to actually perform the LSJ and the presses needed to collect the 50 coins to buy the Life Shroom, cost more 2 presses than what the LSJ would save.

3-1 is a fairly standard chapter with no noticeable strategies other than the usual clever enemy platforming. Theres a special case after the underground section where using a convenient hole in 3D allows Mario to bounce off of the soccer shells and, by using careful navigation, allows Mario to clear the hard blocks at the start of the third section. From there, a few bullet bill bounces clears the rest of the level.

FINALLY the stairs have been beaten... kind of...

Since then, I decided to look into the staircase before the Fracktail fight as it was the most 2 press heavy part of the level. I noticed that the staircase has 20 steps in total. Marios jump height is able to clear 5 steps in a single jump so, at most, it would take 4x 2 presses to climb. However, Marios jump normally cant travel 5 steps in a single jump HORIZONTALLY, barely missing the 5th step. This is because Mario loses his momentum on the step in front of him if he tries to jump later. In the last video, I first do a 5 step jump from the ground as I am not blocked by the staircase in 3D. I then do four 4 step jumps to clear the staircase. This time however, I am able to do four 5 step jumps all the way up the staircase, saving a 2 press. The key difference is running a little off the staircase to the right. When running, Mario can be around 10 units over a floors hitbox without falling. Using this, I am able to get enough speed to make each 5 step jump horizontally without getting blocked by the staircase itself.
The chapter also features plenty of other glitches that have further explanation in the previous videos description (as I cant fit all the explanations here due to character limit).
This video features a modified view (at 11:54) to help better visualize the Fracktail fight. This is a zoomed-out perspective to better show what Mario is doing and how high he bounces in relation to Fracktail. This modified view also edits out the home menus for a more fluid viewing experience.

Water? Earth? Fire? It matters not. Your attempts at saving 2 Presses are paper thin.
Video Notes:
Chapter 5-2 features a little bit of everything, and, as such, features a lot of 2 presses. First of all, this is the second part of the game where I have to deal with water. Surprisingly, by spawning a megabite, I can grab the water tablet without needing to swim at all by repeatedly bouncing off of the spawned megabite.
From there, however, things dont go so swimmingly (pun intended). For the fire tablet, I need to switch to Bowser and back, which adds several menuing 2 presses. The stone tablet can be collected as normal without any additional 2 presses. The majority of the 2 presses come from the final part of the chapter, which is climbing the main tower to get Cudge. Currently, there isnt a way to scale this tower without jumping a bunch of times. However, I do save 1x 2 press by doing Thudley Jumps to the top.
You might have noticed that this segment is done on the Japanese version of the game. This isnt because of some Japanese exclusive glitch, but rather how Cudges prompt works. For some reason, the English version requires you to input a phrase thats 8 characters long. The Japanese version, on the other hand, allows a phrase of four characters in length, which saves 4x 2 presses. This means that the Japanese vesrion is the optimal version for the 2 Button Challenge, but I will continue to play on the English version for the sake of familiarity.
