I was playing around in the Red Coin Field when I bounced on some invisible object. It seems to be roaming around like the two Piantas in the area, which could indicate it’s also a Pianta… or maybe not, I really don’t know.
Both Seedy Pods and both Pokey Heads were already killed when this happened, and none of them was killed in the area where I found the UBO, so I don’t think it’s any of them.
In case that helps, I was playing the PAL version of the game on a Wii, and the Shine was already spawned.

I collect the Sirena 1 Shine without pressing the A button, using only the Spray Nozzle.
Fighting the manta spray-only was never an issue (though this fight is a bit lackluster because I couldnt get a better one to sync for some reason), but we couldnt figure out how to grab the Shine without hovering. The closest we could get was by diving from a nearby tree, but the only attempts that ever made it onto the post used a jump to setup.
But now that we live in the future, we know that Marios sprinkler spray is more powerful than it seems, as it can be used to build up some nice speed on slippery slopes. Unfortunately the A Button Challenge hype has kind of died down in the meantime, so it took me some time to come back to this riddle and realize that when you step on one of the trees lower leaves, it tilts in such a way that its end becomes slippery for a split second. Thats all we need to setup a Beyblade, which easily lets Mario ledgegrab the post. By grabbing the ledge at a specific spot, the ledgegrab is immediately canceled into a normal landing on top of the post, which conveniently allows Mario to dive without a running start, then ground pound into the Shine.

I collect the Ricco 2 Shine without pressing the A button, using only the Hover Nozzle.
Ricco 2 didn’t get much attention since I first uploaded it a year ago. Grassdigger managed to enter the race course hoverless, but the race itself had to be done the long way, because the usual shortcut required jumping with the blooper. The blooperless strat was never seriously considered, as it always seemed either impossible or too slow.
Yesterday, I spent some time in Ricco 2 to figure out the coordinates of the triggers, and took the opportunity to mess around in the level a bit, and that’s really all it took to realize what was possible. The only big difference with the regular blooperless strat is that instead of dropping down onto the lower border of the course for the first checkpoint, I hover into it from the high part so I can get back on top for the rest of the race.

I collect the Gelato 8 Shine without pressing the A button or using F.L.U.D.D. at all.
First, we need to get some Cataquacks out of the way by luring them into the water. See, a Cataquack will stop chasing Mario if he enters a body of water (among other conditions that are irrelevant in this case), but as long as it is chasing Mario, it will always go towards him in a straight line, regardless of any obstacles. I take advantage of this behavior by running around the corners of the bridge. The Cataquacks don’t follow me around the edge and run straight into the water.
Once that is done, I run up the hill to get the big watermelon, push it down the slope with enough speed to skip the upper section of the beach, and get it to the cabana.

I collect the Gelato 10 Shine without pressing the A button, using only the Spray Nozzle.
The bottom of the hill’s slope isn’t slippery for some reason, so I just run there and find a place where I can spray the dune bud and the wall, then spam-dive up the hill to grab the Shine.

I collect the Bianco 5 Shine without the A button, using only the Spray Nozzle.
Contrary to any playthrough of this Shine ever, you want Petey to start a tornado before anything else, so you can get in a high place and later ground pound him, and I was only able to do that in the spot near the Hover Nozzle Box. So its mostly just about waiting for Petey...
The editing isnt great but I dont have time to fix it so sorry about that.

I collect the Noki 1 Shine by pressing the A button 9 times, using only the Spray Nozzle.
So I was wondering how many A presses it would take to beat the game hoverless. I talked about it with the rest of the ABC crew, and we quickly came to the conclusion that most levels would require pretty low amounts… except for Noki Bay. It’s the biggest A press sink in any%, it’s all about climbing up, and if you can get to the other nozzles you’ve already had to climb all the way up. Basically it’s Sunshine’s equivalent to SM64’s Tick Tock Clock.
So yeah, currently Noki 1 hoverless takes 9 A presses, although I feel like the last one can be saved.

I collect the Bianco 10 Shine without pressing the A button, using only the Hover Nozzle.
Since the Hover Nozzle is required to reach the Shine anyway, I use it to help with the movement, both inside and outside the secret area. Pressing the red switch really is the toughest challenge to overcome this time, as I collect the 8 red coins with about 20 seconds to spare.
