Present in the PAL release and the Japanese Gekkan Demo is a dig.rel file, which can be used to load this otherwise unused scene. The game loads demo.thp video file from the root of the game disc (a file type that is not found in any of the releases of the game - and thus has been substituted with the Super Mario Sunshine credits here).
While playing the movie, random characters pop up from sides of the screen at random intervals and can do a few actions (look around, fall, walk across the screen, etc.). Which characters appear changes every time this is loaded.
If START or A are pressed, or if the thp finishes, the game returns to the Title Screen.
Side note, doing this in the demo returns you to a non-demo title screen. The demo actually has code present for the entire game - and, vice versa - the final game has code for the demo.
You can make the release copies of the game boot into demo mode by using the following cheat codes:
US: 04304400 80252F8C
EU: 04310140 80256B54
This may crash or appear incredibly glitched unless the monthry.tpl file is inserted into the root directory of the disc. This file can be found in the demos included on the Interactive Multi-Game Demo Discs 19-22 and 35.
