Here is my vocal and piano cover of Break Free (Lead the Way) from Super Mario Odyssey, also known as Honeylune Ridge: Escape! As with many video game songs, this has multiple titles! The former is the official title on the original’s release. :)
Hey! I’m so glad to have covered this fun song. This felt like a good song to welcome the new decade! I chose to do an acoustic version with only piano and vocals to do a different twist on it. The piano was a fun challenge to arrange to try and cover the full band. It was fun to sing this song - I love vgm lyrical songs with happy/positive/inspiring lyrics. I also really love how the lyrics are all Mario themed. It also has little references to other songs such as Bowser’s Theme from SM64 and 25m from the original Donkey Kong! Thank you to Kate Davis, Naoto Kubo, The Super Mario Players, and all involved for making the original so awesome.
