Hey look, this one has an intro! This is my second little episode in the Cat's VHS Rewind series. This time we look at Super Mario Bros. 2, often referred to as The Lost Levels. This is not to be confused with the other Super Mario Bros. 2, called Super Mario USA in Japan, which is a modification of Doki Doki Panic.

Anyway, the glitch shown here is where getting more than 127 lives results in a death. The technical reason is that the lives are stored as a signed 8-bit integer, which has a range of -128 to 127. When the value overflows, it loops around to negative. The game checks if lives are greater than 0 at death, and if not, game over. This also occurs in the original Super Mario Bros.
