Hi ya! Welcome to my Boss Rush/ Speed Run video! Here, I attempt (keyword attempt) facing every boss at Level-8 difficulty (the highest difficulty setting mind you) with the default handgun-knife combo only. All the while timing myself to sort of be a speed run as well! No extra lives too so every fight has gotta be a one and done type of deal. THIS VIDEOS LIFE STORY: Hey there everyone! Its been a long time for sure but Im finally back to wrap up my original Metal Slug X playthrough I started about... over a decade ago with this bonus video. Like WOW.
What began as a simple compilation video that wouldve showcased all the different credits you could get. Each with their own different sets of artworks but that honestly wouldve been a boring video. I could do better for my viewers so I chose actual gameplay instead with this boss rush. Man, was I in for it for sure though. A video that has taken almost four years in the making.
The first recording of first missions boss was originally recorded in October of 2020 (holy smokes)! After the first recording, the second boss was already making me feel like I was in way over my head and I should maybe just quit. I kept at it though and finally got past it and continued on playing on and off for the rest of the month. Mission 5s boss was another boss that wanted to make me throw it in the towel. I had come so far but it felt like hitting a brick wall. Finally got good enough though and another boss down. Time for the last mission, I beat and recorded the mini-boss fight. Now for the 2-phase final boss...
Remember how I mentioned wanting to quit and forget about this. Well, I kinda did when I got to this one. I lost so many times to the final boss and couldnt even get past the first phase of the fight. I would leave it for weeks then come back to it and lose again then leave for months without any progress because I really did not want to do it anymore. My skill level was not enough for this and especially when the Metal Slug pro(s) I asked said it was actually an impossible task. Maybe it is but maybe not. If it isnt impossible, its for someone else to find out as Im done. Anyway, I later decided I didnt want to give up on this video and decided to even the odds but make up for it at the end by using penalties as seen by the end of this video. A little messy yeah but Im content with what I have here as I never even expected to get past both phases at the rate I was going. Even when evening the odds by allowing myself to use more than the default weapon (like bombs), getting through both phases was still tough. I myself had to tough it out as well as this final fight was starting to make me experience wrist pain which is a first for me for just playing video games. Something I shouldnt have done by pushing myself so hard but its done and my wrist has gotten better. Finally, after recording had begun in 2020, the final boss was defeated and recorded in January of 2023. Yeah, it took that long just for the final boss while the rest of the bosses took just a little over a month.
I was done I thought to myself. But then I realized after gathering all of my footage together, wheres footage of Missions 1 mini-boss? Oh geez, I didnt even count that one and just skipped it. When will this end? Lol and internally crying. After the final boss, this should be a cakewalk. It wasnt but it only took like a days worth to record it. Now was just getting an appropriate new video editing software that would allow me to do more than ever before like adding in the timer. Took a while to get used to a more advanced setup but here we are. I have literally rendered/ exported this video this morning and uploading as I type this. Thank you if you took the time to read all of this. Its been a journey for sure just to be able to release a bonus video of all things.
