Gameplay on a real bona fide Super Hang-On upright arcade cabinet at Four Quarters arcade bar in Bristol. Super Hang-On was my first and all time favourite Mega Drive racing game, and the first game that ever started to feel like a close approximation of replicating something like the experience of a proper arcade racing game at home. Despite that though, I never ever saw a SHG arcade cabinet back in the day and this was my first ever time playing on one.
I do have an excuse for not doing brilliantly at the game here, which was that the accelerator grip had come loose, so I think I was losing speed ever though I was trying to go full pelt.
To this day, I still maintain that the 4 tunes you listen to whilst riding are right up there with some of the best Sega arcade music of all time, easily on a par with the more famous tunes from Outrun and After Burner. In the proper arcade version I'm playing here, the sense of speed in the game is phenomenal, and, I've said it before in another upload, when you combine this with the noise the supercharger makes when you engage it, it makes you feel like an absolute boss! The way the pitch of the noise slowly goes up and intensifies, it's like the game's daring you to keep it pressed down for as long as you can.
