Our cover of "Super Bell Subway (Underground)" from Mario Kart 8, originally composed by Atsuko Asahi/Koji Kondo. This arrangement by Patrick Bartley.
This is the last song from our session in NY, and man... it's probably the most fun we've ever had in one of these rooms over the years. We really went for it. There were some flubs, hiccups, whatever - but we decided to keep it RAW and unfiltered for you, because that's what the spirit of the music is, just like everything else we do. What you're left with is now an unmatched, irreplaceable energy on the tune that can't be simulated.
We've been actually waiting YEARS to pull this off, and once Khrys brought the idea of this song to our attention, we waited for the day we could finally bring it to life. Well, it's finally here. All the years of playing this game and getting frustrated at blue shells and lightning bolts finally paying off into this explosion of fun and fury. We hope you enjoy this cover! We hear it in video games, commercials, movies, and even still in pop music today. But what exactly is swing, and where did it come from? Why does computer swing sound so different from humans playing swing? Is swing just the space between notes? In this Sunday Jazz School, we explore an introduction into the world of swing, diving into its history and its progression through time to the present. By the end of this video, you should have a better idea of what swing is and how you can identify the different types that appear in jazz, and the rest of music!
