On our first evening in Luxor, we organized a traditional felucca ride right along the promenade across from the famous Sofitel Winter Palace Luxor. Haggling for the price was unavoidable, but once we agreed with one of the captains, we set off into a beautiful Nile sunset.

Feluccas have sailed the Nile for centuries using only the wind. The Nile itself was the lifeline of ancient Egypt and still shapes daily life across the country today. Watching the sunset from the water turned out to be the perfect way to begin our time in Luxor.
