A journey through space and time a scientific quest in the footsteps of conquerors. Until late 17th Century, mountains were merely seen as geographical obstacles, infertile land, useless and mostly scary. Scientists were the first ones bitten by the desire to explore them. One of their first objectives were preventing avalanches, and making most remote areas accessible. Since then, engineers have been working on the design of safe and most adapted equipment from textile to means of transportation.
