Summer Beach House Design : House in The Pines by Studio 27 Architecture
This summer beach house is located in the resort community of the Pines on Fire Island in the state of New York.
Designed by Studio 27 Architecture the 2,870 square foot residence was completed in 2007.
House on Fire Island by Studio 27 Architecture:
“This comfortable beach house takes its inspiration from the inherent liveliness and natural spirit of summertime on the Atlantic shore. Mindful of the conventional, builder-driven houses that reflect the pragmatism of communities like this, the architects created a contemporary residence using similar materials and details, but with a fresh attitude. In this interpretation of the ubiquitous clapboard beach house, the volume is expressed as a skin, rather than a boxy container. Over time, the cladding of woven cedar boards will assume the same patina as neighboring houses. Large windows are introduced to reveal a luxurious interior with a light touch of whimsy.
Impacting the design was a desire to create a direct link between the functional program and the sun’s trajectory. Program adjacencies were studied carefully before identifying the swimming pool as the center of social interaction. Interior rooms and exterior spaces were arranged to track the path of the summer sun, connecting it to the rhythm of daily life: breakfast by the pool; cocktails and socializing on the front terrace; and evening dinners in the west light. Sleeping rooms form the backdrop for the house.”
