Headaches and neck pain localized to the suboccipital region is often due to muscles tightness of the upper cervical muscles where they attach to the skull. Discomfort in this region can radiate to the top and side of the head as well as towards the ears.

A few simple exercises can be performed at home to alleviate this discomfort.

1) Neck Stretch (0:22)
2) Muscle Release Head Extension & Flexion (1:35)
3) Muscle Release Head Extension with Rotation (2:23)
4) Neck Strengthening (3:14)

If the entire back of your neck is sore and stiff, try these exercises instead: youtu.be/WjMwXDgdgwI
