A University of Maine study suggests consumers are willing to pay over $3 more for a lobster roll made with meat harvested using new ropeless fishing technology.
However, someone's willingness to pay is influenced by their prior knowledge on whale conservation efforts and the state of Maine's lobster industry.
Lead researcher Qiujie "Angie" Zheng said the study is the first of its kind to bring consumer data into the ongoing debate between lobsterman and conservationists on the adoption of new "ropeless" fishing technology.
