Jimmy Fallon, the video host of the Universal Studios Hollywood Studio Tour, presents a new introduction for the tour's 60th anniversary.

The Studio Tour at Universal Studios Hollywood is a signature attraction that offers guests a behind-the-scenes look at a working film and television studio. Conducted on multi-car trams, the tour takes visitors through iconic backlot sets used in numerous movies and TV shows, including New York Street, Western Street, and the famous Courthouse Square from "Back to the Future." It also provides glimpses into active soundstages where TV shows and movies are being filmed, offering a rare view of the actual workings of a studio.

The tour features various special effects demonstrations, such as an earthquake simulation in the "Earthquake: The Big One" section and a flash flood in the Old West town set. One highlight is the King Kong 360 3-D experience, created by Peter Jackson, where guests encounter a battle between King Kong and dinosaurs. The tour also includes the famous Amity Island from the movie "Jaws," with a surprise encounter with the great white shark, and the Fast & Furious - Supercharged attraction, featuring a high-speed chase with characters from the "Fast & Furious" franchise using 3D-HD imagery and practical effects. Fans of Alfred Hitchcock's "Psycho" can see the Bates Motel and the house on the hill, which are iconic landmarks from the classic thriller.

Additionally, guests can view the massive set used in Steven Spielberg's "War of the Worlds," featuring a crashed airplane and a destroyed suburban neighborhood. The Studio Tour is an educational journey into the heart of Hollywood filmmaking, offering insights into how movies and TV shows are created and providing an up-close look at some of the industry's most famous locations and effects.

The Studio Tour at Universal Studios Hollywood has a rich history that dates back to the studio's early days. In 1915, the Universal Studios lot opened to the public, allowing visitors to watch silent films being made for just 25 cents. This early version of the studio tour provided a firsthand look at the filmmaking process. However, these tours were discontinued with the advent of sound in movies and increased security measures.

The modern version of the Studio Tour was officially launched in 1964 as part of the new Universal Studios Hollywood theme park, offering a more structured and entertaining experience. The tour evolved throughout the late 1960s and 1970s to include various staged events and special effects, such as the simulated flash flood and the parting of the Red Sea from "The Ten Commandments." The 1980s saw the introduction of attractions like the "Battle of Galactica," featuring animatronics and special effects, and the incorporation of film sets from more recent movies.

In the 1990s, the tour modernized further with additions like the "Jurassic Park" props, animatronic dinosaurs, and an upgraded earthquake simulation. The 2000s brought new attractions such as "Revenge of the Mummy: The Ride" and the "War of the Worlds" set, featuring a real Boeing 747 plane crash scene. In 2010, the King Kong 360 3-D experience, created by Peter Jackson, was added, bringing a new level of excitement to the tour. The Fast & Furious - Supercharged attraction was introduced in 2015, featuring a high-speed chase with characters from the popular film franchise using advanced 3D-HD imagery and practical effects. The Studio Tour updates with new sets, props, and experiences from recent films and TV shows, remaining a dynamic and evolving attraction that reflects the latest in Hollywood movie-making technology and popular culture.
