“As a professional dancer, I’ve spent years in a world where we always form an opinion about someone based on what we see. We work to constantly impress a panel of judges. I’m grateful for dance and the lessons I’ve learned, but there is one that is especially important: I only need to impress one judge, our Savior, Jesus Christ. That ‘judge’ helps me every day as I navigate through this tough life lesson. I think we all as human beings can be found guilty of judging someone on their outward appearance, their actions, or lack of actions. I’ve learned that everyone has different paths and compassion is key.
“Everyone could benefit from hearing a message about how to better empathize with others. Listening to a talk by Sister J. Anette Dennis called ‘His Yoke Is Easy and His Burden Is Light’ really helped me reflect on what I can do to not judge others. This talk now encourages me to ponder the question ‘If we really knew what someone was going through, would we treat them differently?’
“I am reminded that we are commanded to love and not to judge and help everyone feel that they belong. I challenge everyone to read this talk, as it has helped me to love more and criticize less.” —Jace
