The best way to custom paint a locomotive is to strip the old paint off. This is how I strip paint from a Proto 2000 to prepare for a custom locomotive build and paint. I use 99% Isopropyl Alcohol and an old tooth brush. I leave it submerged for a few days and then scrub the paint off quite easily.
