While making and testing some small discharge tubes I spotted this demonstration of striations (light and dark spaces) occurring in tube containing Argon at low-pressure. The discharge tube is being driven from a small high frequency cold cathode fluorescent tube driver taken from a laptop LCD back-light. Touching the tube capacitively loads the circuit and the driver’s frequency changes slightly displaying the resonance.
