Richard Nixon Foundation | Strengthening America’s Alliances in the Free World | Grand Strategy Summit 2024 @NixonFoundation | Uploaded September 2024 | Updated October 2024, 1 day ago.
Participants:
Amb. (Ret.) Kelley E. Currie, Former U.S. Ambassador to the UN Economic and Social Council
Christopher Nixon Cox, CEO of Lightswitch Capital
Aaron MacLean, Moderator, Senior Fellow at the Hudson Institute and Host of the School of War podcast
This panel explored how America can use alliances to lead within the context of a multipolar post-Cold War world. Accounting for a nuanced view of alliances, panelists discussed the importance of building accountability with both allies and adversaries and the complexities of working with allies who do not share the same value systems. With the example of President Nixon’s support of Israel during the 1973 Yom Kippur War, panelists highlighted the importance of showing the world that the U.S. will follow-through and defend our allies and put aside internal divisions to show a unified front.
