My record collection is ever growing, but today let's listen to one of the first album I ever got (long before I had a record player!) This is Streets of Rage by Yuzo Koshiro, pressed on vinyl by Data Discs.
This is an awesome pressing, the mastering sounds great and it's been really thoughtfully arranged. Besides the fact these songs slapped back in 1991 and still do to this day, it's nice to have a game soundtrack that plays so much like an album of electronica. If I were playing shows right now, I'm sure I could drop a number of Streets of Rage tracks from this release and they'd go off!

I had a chance to meet Yuzo Koshiro at MAGFest years ago, he and I both DJ'd the same night. We only met briefly but he seems like an awesome guy. I had been playing a bit of Streets of Rage 4 lately, loving the soundtrack to that game, when sifting through my collection I found this record! I knew I had to make a video.
This video was record with my Taruya RED cartridge (had to do red on red!) sent through my Mackie VLZ mixer with a little bit of midrange boost, and then recorded via an Art DPS preamp into my iPhone. The Taruya carts are loud with a powerful sound, so I felt like it worked great for Streets of Rage! If you look to the bottom right of the video, you can see I slow down a couple tracks to -8%, which I think just sounds awesome.
