About the short:
'Douglas, Nevada' is a proof-of-concept short film about an Alzheimer's patient who leaves his home in the middle of the day to visit his deceased brother in Las Vegas. Though it's just a short film, I've been exploring this character for nearly two years in a feature-length version of the story. This short started as a script I would use to better understand his character, with no plans of taking it anywhere. But while writing it, I fell in love with this cold, surreal iteration of the story.
This film is a proof-of-concept for my feature, but on its own, this is also my most personal film to date: a tribute to my family, the desert, and death. More than anything, I want to provide a new perspective on the disease and how we care for our loved ones to understand these complicated yet inevitable situations. It would be an honor to bring this story to life; any help would be greatly appreciated.
